Shawn and his wife, Jamie, also a Dublin City Schools teacher, are proud residents of Dublin and parents to nine children. Five of their children currently attend Dublin City Schools, and their older children have begun their careers along with serving in the Ohio Air National Guard.
Shawn knows true learning goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. For example, to help students gain a better understanding of the legislative process he teamed up with Ohio legislators to name the bullfrog as the official state frog of Ohio in 2010. This process took 8 years and impacted hundreds of students. Ten years later Shawn helped a new generation of students learn the lawmaking process, again by teaming up with state lawmakers, to create the bullfrog license plate which raises awareness and funds to protect and preserve Ohio wetlands. In addition, to give students a global perspective he has led educational trips to Japan, New Zealand, Australia, France, England, Scotland and Ireland. In recognition of his creative and effective teaching style, Shawn was awarded the prestigious Golden Shamrock Award by Dublin City Schools in November of 2024.
Drawing on his extensive experience as an educator and a parent, Shawn is seeking to serve the community in a new capacity. He's ready to take his passion for students and families to the Ohio House of Representatives. There, he will use his collaborative spirit and firsthand knowledge to work with other leaders on creating a better future for the residents of Dublin, Hilliard, and Northwest Franklin County.
For over three decades, Shawn has been serving the Dublin community as a devoted father, husband, and teacher. Since 1995, he's been a respected secondary social studies teacher and coach for Dublin City Schools.
